Shopping in Portsmouth

High street, designer shopping, antiques, quirky one offs....shopping in Portsmouth just gets better and better with great independent and specialist stores complementing the growing number of leading brands in the city's three main shopping areas.

Right on the water's edge Gunwharf Quays offers shopping and spectacular views across Portsmouth harbour. Explore over 90 designer outlet shops in its wide pedestrian avenues and squares.

If you have started to feel every high street is the same then Southsea will make a refreshing change. Albert Rd, Marmion Rd and Palmerston Rd are the streets to head for if you're looking for something different.

A £350 million development is set to transform the city centre bringing two anchor stores and 80 new retail brands to the heart of Portsmouth for 2010. For now you can still enjoy the indoor mall at Cascades, a traditional street market dating back centuries and the green space of Victoria Park.

Southsea
Although Southsea has two department stores and some very well known names, it's the brilliant range of independent shops that make shopping such a pleasure. Florists, diamond merchants, interiors and antiques will distract you as you meander through Southsea's delightful streets. And if you just have to stop for lunch there's a host of cafes, bars and restaurants to choose from.

Included in the Southsea area is Albert Road - a bustling road full of independent traders, quirky shops, retro clothes, antiques and crafts.

Gunwharf Quays
Choose from over 80 designer outlets where you can get big-name brands for less. Open every day including Sunday and late throughout the summer, there's always a reason to stay longer. Take a break from all that shopping and grab lunch or a drink and finish off the day at the cinema or comedy club. Click on the 'search for shops' link on the left or go direct to the Gunwharf Quays website.

City Centre
Portsmouth's city centre has all the big names you'll recognise and some you wouldn't expect. Enjoy the indoor mall at Cascades, the shopping precinct on Commercial Road and on Thursday, Friday and Saturday there's a street-market dating back centuries. Visit the nearby Victoria Park and see why Portsmouth won inner-city in bloom.

Markets
Originally sanctioned by Royal Charter in 1194, Portsmouth City Centre Market is now one of the South Coast's most vibrant and successful markets.
Centrally located in Commercial Road every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the market has expanded from it's early fruit and vegetable origins and now boasts an extensive and varied range of stalls which all add to a unique and exciting shopping experience.

Current goods on offer include fashion items, luggage, footwear, handbags watches, car accessories, telephone accessories and pet foods. In addition, traditional fish and poultry traders are also present.

For those in need of refreshment, a snack and a great cup of coffee is always close at hand - visit once and you will want to come again!
